History:

American Eagle Gold Bullion coins debuted in 1986. They were minted at the U.S. Mint in four different sizes; 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10^th oz. 2016 marks its 30^th anniversary. The only modern bullion coins to be authorized by the U.S. Government. Backed for their weight, content, and purity by the U.S. Mint. Per law, the gold from American mines only is used to make these coins. Proof coins have low mintage hence greater demand.
