The reverse side of the 2016 ½ oz Gold Lunar Year of the Monkey Coin features a small monkey relaxing on its hind legs on a branch while glancing over a at a savory peach hanging from an overhead branch. The reverse side also features the Chinese character for monkey, the Perth Mint “P” mintmark, and “Year of the Monkey” inscribed near the rim of the coin.
The obverse side features Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of her Majesty Queens Elizabeth II which has been featured on Perth Mint’s Lunar Series Coins since 1998! The obverse side also features “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA”, “50 DOLLARS”, “2016”, and “1/4 9999 GOLD” inscribed near the rim of the coin.
