The Perth Mint introduced the Silver Kookaburra in 1990 and it turned out to become Australia’s longest running silver bullion program. The 2015 edition marks the Silver Kookaburra’s 25th “Silver” anniversary. Every year, this coin features new designs of Australia’s native Kookaburra on its reverse side. The Kookaburra, which is related to the Kingfisher family, produces a very distinct sound that sounds a lot like laughing.
The obverse of the Silver Kookaburra features the image of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II. The design was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. This side also features the coin’s denomination of $10 AUD. The reverse depicts a Kookaburra resting upon a tree stump surrounded by eucalyptus leaves as well as a fern. This side is completed by the “1990-2015” anniversary signage as well as “The Australian Kookaburra 10 oz. 999 Silver” insignia.
