This 2012 S 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagle Set contains two coins, one with a proof finish and the other with a reverse proof finish. The US Mint produced this set at their San Francisco facility.
The official release of this exceptional set was on June 7, 2012, and within the first day, orders for this set reached 85,341. Several months later the mint increased the final mintage to 224,935.
The obverse features an internationally recognized full-length figure of Lady Liberty, enveloped in folds of the American flag with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left hand. The reverse depicts the heraldic eagle with a shield, an olive branch in the right talon, and arrows in the left.
The US Mint has a significant tradition of offering unique limited-edition coin sets, with this one offering a Silver American Eagle in a “reverse proof” finish. This shows off a magnificent contrast, with Lady Liberty and the Eagle in a mirror-like finish.
