This 2010 W 1/2 oz $10 First Spouse - Buchanan's Liberty Gold Uncirculated Coin is a member of the beloved First Spouse Series. This series honors the accomplished and determined women that supported our great leaders of the United States. Due to James Buchanan's bachelorship, no official First Spouse graces the coin's obverse or reverse. This makes this particular coin a very unusual member of the First Spouse Series.

The obverse features the bust of Lady Liberty, wearing a crown with the word "LIBERTY" inscribed upon it. Thirteen stars representing the 13 original colonies encircle Liberty's head. Other inscriptions include the year of mintage, "IN GOD WE TRUST", "15th PRESIDENCY" and the year of mintage.

The reverse displays a special image designed by David Westwood and Joseph Menna. It features a young James Buchanan working in his family's country store as a bookkeeper. Inscriptions on the reverse include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", the denomination, weight, and purity of the coin.
