2010 British Sovereign 5-Coin 2.0599 oz Gold Proof Set NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo

This 2010 NGC-graded 5-coin set includes the five pounds, two pounds, sovereign, half sovereign, and quarter sovereign coins, totaling 2.0599 troy oz. of gold, and graded as proof 69 - a sharp, attractive, nearly perfect strike and with few to no blemishes. Each coin is struck in 22 carat gold to the same precise standard as every sovereign since 1817.

The design portraying St.George slaying the dragon appears on the reverse of all five coins in the collection. First appearing on the sovereign of 1817, this design has been used continuously since 1893 on all United Kingdom gold coins. It is, therefore, one of the oldest designs on modern coinage. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by sculptor Raphael Maklouf, whose initials may be seen on the truncation of the portrait.

Each year since 1980, the Royal Mint have produced sets of 3 and 4 coins in the gold sovereign series, in 2010 the four coin set became a five coin set with the introduction of the quarter sovereign. The 3 coin set usually consists of a sovereign, half sovereign and double sovereign or two pound piece, this is now called a Premium Three Coin Set. The 'standard' three coin set now contains a sovereign, a half sovereign and the quarter sovereign.
