2007 W 1/2 oz $10 First Spouse - Jefferson's Liberty Gold Coin NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo
This beautiful First Spouse coin is graded by NGC as PF 69 Ultra Cameo: a proof coin with a sharp strike with full original luster, with no more than two small non-detracting contact marks or flaws. In 2007, the United States Mint released the first four coins in a series of Gold First Spouse Coins. These coins are the government's first 1/2 oz .9999 fine Gold coins and are also the first commemorative 1/2 oz Gold coins. With a face value of $10, these Gold coins are minted and released annually in the order the First Ladies served in the White House. Each First Spouse Gold Coin will coincide with the release of the four annual Presidential $1 Coins. The United States Mint certifies that this coin is a genuine coin, struck in accordance with legislation passed by Congress and signed by the President on December 22, 2005 (Public Law 109-145). This coin was produced by the Department of the Treasury, United States Mint. This coin is legal tender of the United States.
The obverse of the First Spouse Gold coin features a portrait of the First Lady with an inscription of their name, presidential order and years of their term as first spouse, along with the year of minting. The reverse highlights a unique image emblematic of that spouse's life and work. In the few cases when a president served without a spouse, a Gold coin is issued bearing an image of Liberty, while the reverse shows an image depicting the president's life.
This beautiful 2007 uncirculated coin portrays a design emblematic of Liberty, due to the fact that President Thomas Jefferson did not serve his Presidential term with a spouse. The obverse side of the coin features an image that first appeared on the Draped Bust Half-Cent coin from 1800 to 1808. Above the portrait depicts the word, "LIBERTY" and to the right of the portrait depicts the presidency in which Thomas Jefferson was in term, "3rd Presidency 1801-1809" and the Mint Mark "W". Below the portrait is the inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST-2007".
The reverse side depicts Thomas Jefferson's monument, at his Monticello estate. Inscribed on the coin are the words written on his monument, which Jefferson wrote himself: "Here was buried Thomas Jefferson, author of the declaration of American independence, of the statute of Virginia for religious freedom and father of the University of Virginia. Born April 2, 1743, O.S. Died July 4, 1826." Circling the rim on the reverse side are the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "$10", and "1/2 OZ. .9999 Fine gold."
