This 2007 10 oz $1000 Gold Lunar Year of The Pig Australia Perth Mint is part of the Lunar Series I - one of the most popular coin series from the Perth Mint of Australia. Celebrating the Chinese Lunar Calendar, the series features each of the 12 animals of the Zodiac. The Perth Mint Lunar Series I was introduced in 1996. Each year release features a new image of the animal from that particular year on the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The first coin in this series had the Mouse design and 2007 year honors the Pig.
The coin’s reverse showcases the image of a young pig, standing in a field of mud and debris. The coin also includes the Chinese symbol for pig and the coin’s weight, purity, and metal content.
The coin’s obverse bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley and shown on all Australian currency. Artwork also includes engravings “Elizabeth II,” “Australia,” and the face value of the coin.
