The Australian Lunar Series is based on the Chinese Lunar Calendar, and each coin in this series represents one of the animals within the twelve year lunar cycle. These coins are minted by the Australian Perth Mint and are legal tender coins. They were first minted in 1996, and have been highly coveted by collector's throughout the years. They come in an assortment of sizes and contain .9999 fine 24-Karat gold. The obverse always displays a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the reverse will have the animal associated within that lunar cycle.
The reverse of this gold coin depicts a rooster standing atop some rocks as the sun is rising in the background.
