2003-W Gold $10 Commemorative First Flight Centennial $10 PCGS PR 69 DCAM
This beautiful 2003-W First Flight Gold Coin is graded by PCGS Mint State/PR 69 Deep Cameo - Coin has a sharp strike with full original luster, with no more than two small non-detracting contact marks or flaws. No hairlines or scuff marks are visible. Eye appeal is exceptional.
On December 17, 2003, Orville and WIlbur Wright created the first manned powered flight machine. This coin was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of that historic event. Aside from the bimetallic $10 gold coin issued a few years ago, this was the first $10 gold commemorative coin issued by the United States Mint since 1984.
The obverse of the coin features Donna Weaver's design of a portrait of Orville and Wilbur Wright; the Wright Brothers. Encircling their protrait is the inscriptions “LIBERTY”, “IN GOD WE TRUST”, the centennial dates “1903 2003″, “ORVILLE & WILBUR WRIGHT”, and “FIRST FLIGHT CENTENNIAL”.
The reverse of the coin potrays Norman E. Nemeth's design of the Wright 1903 Flyer with an eagle soaring above it. Encircling the portrait is the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, and “TEN DOLLARS”. To the right of the flyer is the mint mark "W" for West Point.
Like all of our other gold coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. Item will be wrapped and packaged safe for delivery.
