The $1 dollar bill is perhaps the most common dollar bill in the world. The portrait of George Washington is featured on the front. The portrait utilized has an official title: the Athenaeum Portrait. However, it was famously unfinished by the artist, Gilbert Stuart, in 1796 so he could hold onto it to replicate it for other works. This particular currency note, however, is collectible for its Printing Error. Specifically, this error is called a “printed foldover,” meaning that an uncut sheet folded over during the printing process. Errors are not very common, and you can make an entire collection of currency note errors!
The obverse of the currency note bears the same design found on the circulating US dollar bill from 2003. The error appears on the bottom left corner as it is folded up, disrupting the printing of the border and serial number.
The reverse also has the same design found on the circulating $1 USD, plus the folded corner error. The Great Seal appears on the right side, whereas the left side displays the famous image of the unfinished pyramid with the Eye of Providence at the top. At the bottom of the pyramid is the Roman numerals MDCCLXXVI, the date America won independence from Great Britain. The face value is also prominently featured on the reverse.
