These particular 9-11 Silver American Eagles carry special significance for their connection to the 9-11 attacks.
The obverse features the famous Adolph A. Weinman “Walking Liberty” design. Lady Liberty holds olive and oak branches in her left arm as she strides towards the rising sun. Her right arm is outstretched as if to touch the sun and the American flag around her shoulders ripples behind her. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY" as well as the year of mintage and “IN GOD WE TRUST”.
The coin’s reverse displays John Mercanti’s updated United States national coat of arms. Here, a bald eagle stretches its wings, holding a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. It grasps a banner reading “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak, and its chest is decorated with a shield showing the US flag. 13 stars shine above the eagle’s head, representing the 13 colonies. The weight, purity, denomination, and country’s name are inscribed around the rim.
