This beautifully designed 2001 silver 10 Yuan Snake from the Fan Lunar series is composed of 1 oz. of .999 pure silver, graded by NGC as MS 66, a coin that has above average quality of strike and full original mint luster, with no more than two or three minor but noticeable contact marks.  This is a great piece for coin or bullion collectors.

The lunar cycle has been in place for centuries and is based on astronomy, taking into consideration the exact positions of the sun and the moon. The lunar cycle revolves around a twelve-year rotation. Each year of this cycle is associated with a different animal that reoccurs every twelve years. The China Mint decided to honor these animals by placing them on coins during their year in the cycle. The highly collectible Lunar series of coins first began in 1981, while the amazing Fan series began only in 2000, making this coin struck in only the second-ever year of this series. The animal on this year's coin is the snake, known for having great wisdom, being determined, wise yet vain, selfish, and passionate.

The 2001 Silver Snake coins have on their reverse design a traditional Chinese building and its surrounding area, and the year of issuance above (2001). The obverse design features a snake moving through some plants, with the denomination (50 Yuan). With twelve different animals in the series, this coin is a great start to an amazing collection.
