The Dragon is the most revered animal in Chinese culture and is one of the established animals on the Chinese Zodiac Calendar.

The obverse features the profile portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions include, “ELIZABETH II” “AUSTRALIA,” “100 DOLLARS,” and the designer's initials “IRB”.

The reverse displays a dragon with a flaming Pearl of Wisdom. Also engraved on the reverse is the Chinese character for “Dragon", as well as the year, the weight, and the purity of the coin. The Perth Mint mintmark "P" is also included on the lower right.
