The $2.5 Liberty Head Quarter Eagles were introduced in 1840 and shared design elements with the Eagles of 1838 and a Half Eagles of 1839. Christian Gobrecht, whose artistic style was heavily influenced by Neoclassicism, was the one charged with designing the new pieces.
The obverse side of the coin bears the bust of Liberty facing left, wearing a coronet with the word "LIBERTY" inscribed on it. The reverse features an American eagle with wings outstretched, holding a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in each of its talons, and with a shield across its breast.
Each coin contains .12094 troy ounces of pure gold and will arrive in Extra Fine condition.
