1997 1.85 oz Platinum American Eagle 4-Coin Set NGC MS 70/69 - First Year of Issue
The American Platinum Eagle is the official platinum bullion coin of the United States. In 1995, Director of the United States Mint, Philip N. Diehl, American Numismatic Association President, David L. Ganz, and Platinum Guild International Executive Director, Jacques Luben, began the legislative process of creating the Platinum Eagle. After over two years of work, the coins were first released by the United States Mint in 1997. It is offered in 1/10, 1/4, 1/2, and 1 troy oz varieties and consists of .9995 fine platinum. The American Platinum Eagle is authorized by the United States Congress, and is backed by the United States Mint for weight and content.
Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated versions are made each year, in each size. The Brilliant uncirculated, like this set, do not have a mint mark on the reverse, indicating they were minted at the Philadelphia United States government mint. These coins have been graded as a Perfect Mint State 70/69 by NGC! The obverse features John Mercanti‘s design exhibiting a portrait of the Statue of Liberty gazing confidently forward, a symbol of freedom and opportunity, wearing a seven point crown with her right arm rising above her. "LIBERTY" is inscribed across the top of the bullion coin, and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is located in the lower left of the coin. The year the coin was issued and "IN GOD WE TRUST" are to the right side of Lady Liberty. The reverse features an Eagle soaring close to the sun, with the inscribtion, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" at the top of the reverse side. The purity and the weight are located on the right side, and the face value is found at the bottom.
Like all of our other platinum coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. Item will be wrapped and packaged safe for delivery.
