The 1996 Year of the Rat/Mouse (used interchangeably) Gold coin is graded by NGC as Uncirculated Details - a coin that shows no wear or evidence of circulation. This is the first release of the Series I 12-Coin series, spanning the years 1996 - 2007, an exclusive Year of the Rat coin from Perth Mint containing 1 troy oz of .9999 pure 24-karat gold.

Australian Lunar collector coins have been sought after around the world ever since the series began with the 1996 Year of the Mouse release. With this 2007 Year of the Rat coins, the first of 12 animals associated with the ancient lunar calendar is now represented in 99.99% pure gold. This release of the 1996 1 oz coin has a limited mintage of only 16,593!

The 1996 Year of the Rat features an image of a rat climbing on some rocks, design by Tony Dean, surrounded by the traditional beaded border. The inscriptions include the Chinese character for rat within the left field and the date within the left field, as well. An indication of the precious metal weight and purity appears below. The portrait of Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf appears on the obverse of the coin with inscriptions “Australia” and “Elizabeth II” along with the “100 DOLLARS″ denomination.
