This stunning proof coin set was created for The Universal Exposition of Seville (Expo '92)l which was organized to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus discovering the Americas (1492-1992). It took place from April 20th - October 12th on La Isla de La Cartuja (Cartuja Island) in Seville, Spain. The theme for the Expo was "The Age of Discovery" and over 100 countries were represented, making it one of the largest ever hosted. This 8-piece coin set beautifully exhibits different landmarks in Seville, Spain, and was created by the Royal Spanish Mint.
Seville Expo ’92 - 100 Pesetas: The obverse depicts an arched bridge (Triana Bridge over the Guadalquivir in Seville) surrounded by raised beaded dots. The lettering “JVAN CARLOS I”, “REY DE ESPANA” and the year (1992) is also displayed on the rim. The reverse depicts another arched bridge (BARQUETA) within raised beaded circles surrounding it. The lettering “EXPO ‘92”, “SEVILLA” and the denomination (100 pesetas) are displayed on the rim. This coin contains .050 oz. (1.68 g) of .925 silver and has a mintage of 16,000 pieces.
Seville Expo ’92 - 200 Pesetas: The obverse depicts the Torre de Oro in Seville within raised beaded circles. The lettering “EXPO ‘92”, “SEVILLA” and the denomination (200 pesetas) are displayed on the rim. The reverse depicts a hydro-electric dam within raised beaded circles surrounding it. The lettering “JVAN CARLOS I”, “REY DE ESPANA” and the year (1992) is also displayed on the rim. This coin contains .1002 oz. (3.3700 g) of .925 silver and has a mintage of 16,000 pieces.

Seville Expo ’92 - 2,000 Pesetas: The obverse depicts Cathedral and Giralda tower within raised beaded circles. The Cathedral of Seville was built in the 15th and 16th centuries with a Gothic design to it. This beautifully crafted place of worship at one time was an Arab mosque. It is now the largest place of worship in Spain and the third largest cathedral in the Christian world. The lettering “EXPO ‘92”, “SEVILLA” and the denomination (2000 pesetas) are displayed on the rim. The reverse displays a beautiful view of the avenue of Europe within raised beaded circles surrounding it. The lettering “JVAN CARLOS I”, “REY DE ESPANA” and the year (1992) is also displayed on the rim. This coin contains .7940 oz. (26.70 g) of .925 silver and has a mintage of 16,000 pieces.

Nobel Prize Winners - 10,000 Pesetas: The obverse depicts Spanish and Latin American writers awarded the Nobel Prize depicted in oval frames, the hand with quill encircled below. The lettering “QVINTO CENTENNARIO” and the denomination (10,000 pesetas) are displayed on the rim. The reverse displays Royal family depicted in circular frames within raised beaded circles surrounding it. The lettering “JVAN CARLOS I”, “REY DE ESPANA” and the year (1992) are also displayed on the rim. This coin contains 5.0183 oz. (168.75 g) of .925 silver and has a mintage of 14,000 pieces.
Discovery America Mill - 40000 PESETAS: The obverse depicts a horse-powered coin press surrounded by raised beaded dots. The lettering “QVINTO CENTENARIO” is around the rim with the mintmark, the denomination (40,000 pesetas), and the logo that represents the Quincentennial of the Discovery of America. The reverse depicts a King Juan Carlos which divides the beaded circle and date. This coin contains .4340 oz. (13.50 g) of .999 gold and has a mintage of 1,199 pieces.
