In 1986 our greatest lady, the Statue of Liberty, turned 100 years old. In celebration of this great event, the West Point Mint has manufactured this unique commemorative legal tender Liberty Coin. The coin was designed by the Mint's chief engraver, Elizabeth Jones.
The obverse of this 1986 Statue of Liberty Gold $5 depicts the head of the Statue of Liberty from an aerial view, symbolizing the stare toward the prospects of liberty and chance, with the inscription "1986 LIBERTY," and the mint mark "W". The reverse features an eagle in flight, with the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "FIVE DOLLARS," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
