1924 Peace Silver Dollar $1 VAM 5A Broken Wing Top 50 AU

Bullion Exchanges is excited to offer the 1924 Peace Silver Dollar $1 VAM 5A Broken Wing Top 50 AU! This rare and visually distinct variety is part of the VAM (Van Allen-Mallis) catalog of die varieties and is officially recognized as a Top 50 Peace Dollar due to its noticeable die break on the eagle’s wing—earning it the nickname “Broken Wing.” Struck at the Philadelphia Mint from 90% silver, this 1924 VAM 5A is a standout coin that adds both rarity and historical appeal to any serious silver dollar collection.

The Peace Dollar was introduced in 1921 as a replacement for the Morgan Dollar and was minted until 1935. Designed by Italian-American sculptor Anthony de Francisci, the coin was intended to commemorate the end of World War I and symbolize the hope for enduring peace. The obverse features a radiant Lady Liberty wearing a spiked crown, inspired by the Statue of Liberty, while the reverse showcases a bald eagle at rest, perched on a rock with an olive branch in its talons. The “Broken Wing” variety on the 1924 issue is the result of a die break that appears to damage the eagle’s wing, creating a dramatic and highly collectible error.
