Although not part of the 1921 Centenario issue, the 1919 edition predates the iconic 50 Pesos coin and reflects Mexico’s efforts to stabilize its economy and reestablish monetary confidence after the Mexican Revolution (1910–1920). The reverse features the Aztec Sun Stone (Calendar Stone) a powerful symbol of Mexico’s indigenous heritage - while the obverse displays the national coat of arms, an eagle perched on a cactus with a serpent in its beak, representing strength and independence.
