1907 $20 Gold Saint Gaudens Double Eagle Coin PCGS MS 66
The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle coins are considered to be the most beautiful gold coins ever produced in the history of the U.S. Mint. These coins were minted between 1907 and 1933 until the mintage of gold coins was repealed by the Gold Reserve Act in 1934. This act outlawed the ownership of gold and most of the gold coinage from this era was forfeited and melted down. The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle gets its name from the U.S. engraver Augustus Saint-Gaudens who created this original and iconic design.
This Double Eagle is an extremely rare piece due to its 1907 first year of mintage as well as the very high MS 66 grade. The coin has been graded by PCGS. It is encased in a protective plastic holder that will retain its value for many years to come. The obverse features Lady Liberty walking forwards with a torch and laurel leaves in her hands. Behind her appears the U.S. Capitol Building in front of a rising sun. The reverse shows the majestic American Bald Eagle in flight with its wings unfurled behind it on top of another rising sun. Above the eagle, the following words are inscribed: "United States of America" and "Twenty Dollars."
