The obverse features a left-sided bust of Lady Liberty, her hair loose and wearing a tiara inscribed with the phrase "LIBERTY." Encircling the rim are 13 stars along with the year of mintage.

The reverse shows the American bald eagle with a patriotic shield on its chest, wings spread open for flight. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the denomination.
