1875 Netherlands Gold 10 Guilder Willem III NGC MS 66
This beautifully designed 1875 Netherlands .1947 oz Gold 10 Guilder Willem III is composed of .900 pure gold and graded by NGC MS 66, a coin that has above average quality of strike and full original mint luster, with no more than two or three minor but noticeable contact marks. This is a great piece for coin or bullion collectors.
This gold coin, called the Gulden in dutch, meaning "golden", contains more gold than many other European coins, these treasured coins are a great choice for your collection.
The history of this coin dates back many centuries. By 1670, the Dutch had created a huge merchant shipping fleet, and required a medium of exchange to facilitate trade. The Dutch soon issued many different types of gold and silver coinage, but it was the guilder that became the official currency of the Netherlands when the United Kingdom of the Netherlands was established in 1815. It remained the official currency until 1933.
On the obverse of this coin you will find a large portrait of King Willem III facing right, who was the reigning monarch at the time the coin was struck. The name of the monarch, KONING WILLEM DE DERDE, also appears on the front, as well as the words “GOD ZIJ MET ONS” which translates as “God is with us."
On the reverse you will find the Coat of Arms of Netherlands, which is a shield with a picture of a lion clutching swords and arrows, topped with the royal crown. Along with the Coat of Arms, the back of the coin also has the denomination and the date. Around the coat of arms are the words “KONINGRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN”, which means “Kingdom of the Netherlands."
