We're happy to offer the 1857 S $20 Liberty Head Double Eagle Gold Coin graded by PCGS as AU 55. This coin is one of few salvaged from the shipwreck of the SS Central America.
The obverse, inspired by the Roman sculpture "Crouching Venus", depicts Lady Liberty facing left and wearing a pearl-studded diadem with the word "LIBERTY" inscribed on it. Inscribed are 13 stars that represent the 13 original colonies along with the year of mintage.
The reverse depicts the Seal of the United States with a heraldic eagle bearing a shield and holding a banner in its beak; the denomination inscribed below.
