1 oz Hercules Ninth Labor - Girdle of Hippolyta Copper Round

Bullion Exchanges is pleased to carry The Girdle of Hippolyta 1 oz. Copper Round, the ninth release in the 12 Labors of Hercules Series. Each round contains 1 troy ounce of  copper, and is privately minted at an IRA approved facility.

The ninth labor imposed on Hercules by Eurystheus, was to bring back the precious girdle of Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons. The Amazons were an all-female race and it is believed that they lived in the mysterious lands in the north, their capital Temiscyra, lay on the slopes of the Caucasus.

To execute this expedition Hercules had to organize a group of volunteers, they armed a ship, expecting the Amazons to be hostile against them, then set sail on their long voyage. On their voyage two of Hercules companions were killed by the sons of Minos. The two grandsons of Minos were then given to Hercules to replace his loss. When they reached Temiscyra on the mouth of the river Thermodon, they were unexpectedly welcomed by the Amazon women, especially by Hippolyta who was fascinated by what had occurred during their journey.

Hercules explained to Hippolyta the reason for their expedition to her far off land, to which Hippolyta replied, you are welcome to take the girdle as a gift. Hera, on hearing this, took the form of an Amazon, then spread a rumor that Hercules had come to steal away their queen, and take her back with him to Greece. The female warriors, in protection of their queen, began fighting the heroes, and in the fierce battle that ensued, Hippolyta was killed by the hands of Hercules, thinking she had betrayed him.

After the battle had been won, and the ninth labor was completed Hercules returned to bring the girdle back to Eurystheus.
