The Platinum American Eagle coins are a series of bullion coins minted by the United States Mint. They were first introduced in 1997, after being authorized by Congress in 1996. Initially, the Platinum American Eagle coins were produced in four denominations: 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz. However, after 2008, only the 1 oz platinum American eagle continued to be produced.
The obverse features a close-up depiction of Lady Liberty calmly gazing forward adorned with her crown.
The reverse showcases a regal bald eagle in flight with the sun shining in the background.
