The design for this Buffalo Silver Round was taken from the original coin’s artwork created by sculptor James Earle Fraser during the presidency of William H. Taft. This design has a rich history behind it. Fraser utilized his childhood memories of traveling through Minnesota and the Dakotas with his father where they interacted with the American Bison (“buffalo”) and Native American tribes. Additionally, three Native American chiefs posed for the portrait on the obverse. The original Buffalo Silver coin known as “Indian Head Nickel” was minted in 1913-1937 and is considered by many as one of the best coins in American coinage.
Round Features:
- Lot of twenty rounds, each made from .999 fine silver, the weight of 1 troy oz.
- Individual rounds come in protective coin flips. Multiples of 20 are shipped in plastic tubes.
- Obverse: Features a reproduction of James Earle Fraser’s Indian Head Nickel. Inscriptions: “Liberty”.
- Reverse: Depicts American Bison well-known as a “Black Diamond”. Inscriptions vary depending on the refinery.
