Issued to memorialize the American victory in World War I, Silver Peace Dollars also signify peace after World War I. The Peace Dollars were struck by the US Mint from 1921-1928 and then again from 1934-1935. These coins are a rather short-lived series and are therefore much sought after by collectors who may find it is easier to complete these sets. Designed by Anthony de Francisci, these were the last silver coins actually struck for circulation in the United States of America.

Commemorating American victory in World War I and symbolizing peace, these Silver Peace Dollar Coins have a rich heritage. These coins also marked the initiation of new and fresh ideas, as they were the result of an article written by ANA Past President Frank Duffield to introduce a new coin to honor America's victory.
Although a bill was not passed by the Congress to mint these coins, they could be minted at the discretion of the Secretary of Treasury under an act of 1890. According to this specific act, a new coin may be introduced if the old coin has been mined for more than 25 years. Hence, the Morgan Dollars that had been mined for more than 25 years were replaced by the new Peace Dollar in December 1921 without the act of Congress.
