James W. Webster founded Gardentown in 1879 which is now known as Webster. This place was established initially for settlers from England and served as a stopover for travelers between Houston/Harrisburg, Galveston, Kemah, and Seabrook. When the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas railroads came into Webster, it saw significant development. The city was incorporated in 1958. Webster is in close proximity to Johnson Space Center and is popularly known as the gateway to the Space Center.
