Henry Millard, a native of New Orleans, founded Beaumont in 1835 and named it after the family name of his wife - Mary Beaumont. It was incorporated as a town in 1838. Beaumont flourished as a prime lumber town by the late 19th century. The discovery of oil on Spindletop Hill in 1901 led to an oil boom and Beaumont became home for many oil companies. The production of oil at Spindletop at that time was greater than the combined yield produced all around the world. Beaumont forms the Golden Triangle along with Port Arthur and Orange, and the Triangle is a major industrial area on the Texas Gulf Coast. Beaumont has several attractions such as the Fire Museum of Texas, Texas Energy Museum, Edison Museum, Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum, Beaumont Children's Museum, Beaumont Botanical Gardens, Tyrrell Park, and Cattail Marsh, Beaumont Riverfront Park, etc.
There are a few popular precious metal stores in this area that offer a great selection of coins, paper currency, and other numismatic items. Texas eliminated the sales tax on sales or purchases of gold, silver, platinum bullion, and numismatic coins starting in October 2013, encouraging investors and collectors. Being an out-of-state retailer, Bullion Exchanges does not charge sales taxes on any purchases made by Texas residents. However, it is always better to check with a tax professional before making any purchase, as we are no tax policy experts.
