Vineland is a city in New Jersey that lies on the Maurice River. In this city was founded the Welch’s Grape Juice. The biggest farmer’s cooperative on the east coast is in Vineland. Charles Landis purchased a vast acre of land in 1861 here and he thought the land was favorable for growing grapes hence started advertising to attract Italian grape growers to the town. The founder of Welch’s Grape Juice, Thomas Bramwell Welch, bought the grapes grown in Vineland for his juice production. Today, portions of the Vineland are part of the Urban Enterprise Zone which provides various employment opportunities.
