BRAZIL CURRENCY AND MINTS

Brazil is a country located in South America. The official currency of Brazil has been the Brazilian real since it replaced the cruzeiro real in 1994. The real can be divided into 100 centavos. Issued by the Central Bank of Brazil, the Brazilian real was reported in April 2019 to be the 20th most transacted currency. At its inception, the Brazilian real was equivalent to one United States dollar. Shortly after, Brazil experienced an increase in monetary flow which raised the value of the real. However, the value of the Brazilian real against the US dollar ultimately decreased. As of July 2022, the exchange rate is $1 USD = 5.34 Brazilian real.

The Casa da Moeda do Brazil, also referred to as the Brazilian mint is owned and operated by the Brazilian government. Established in 1694, the Brazilian mint headquarters and facilities are located in Santa Cruz. It’s responsible for manufacturing legal tender coins, banknotes, medals, and some security prints.
