New Britannia Release Marks Touching Tribute During Transitionary Time
0Behold! The new 2023 Great Britain Britannia Coin has arrived! This coin will be the final issue of the 2023 Brittania series to feature Queen Elizabeth II. A new design, featuring King Charles III's effigy, will be issued in 2024.
New Features!
This Brilliant Uncirculated coin will showcase four new security features recently added in 2021! The four new security “elements” will make counterfeiting even more difficult.
The first element is an updated background wave design, which captures the light on the coin’s surface. The second security addition is the inclusion of smooth lines on Britannia’s shield. The third is a holographic image of a padlock in the bottom left, which transitions to a trident when you tip the coin. Lastly, the minuscule Latin expression “Decus Et Tutamen” ('An ornament and a safeguard') is inscribed along the inner rim of the coin.
Legacy
In 2007, Queen Elizabeth II surpassed her great-grandmother Queen Victoria in becoming the longest-lived British Monarch.
Subsequently, in 2015, Queen Elizabeth cemented her legacy as the longest-reigning British monarch in the world. That year also saw the redesign of her effigy by artist Jody Clark, who won a ‘closed competition’ held by the Royal Mint Advisory Committee (RMAC). Clark’s depiction shows an aging Elizabeth II wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem crown from her coronation, thus beautifully linking the present with the past.
