97.2 oz US Treasury Silver Grease Bar
Prior to June 4th, 1968, the U.S. Congress passed a bill that repealed a clause that used to promise each U.S. Dollar to pay out a dollar's worth of silver. After the passage of this bill, there was a sudden rush around the country to trade in these notes for physical silver. Most people were able to get a few ounces or grains of silver, however, those who collected and stockpiled these notes traded them in for what turned out to be these Silver Grease Bars. The reason why this bar bears this name is because of how crudely they were poured and their weight being written on them by grease pencils.
This 97.2 oz US Treasury Silver Grease Bar will make an excellent addition to any precious metals portfolio. The bar is made from .999 fine silver with a weight of 97.2 troy ounces. The obverse showcases the weight of the bar written in a grease pencil. The reverse is left intentionally blank.
