This magnificent gold coin honors the famous, biblical story of Noah’s Ark. Genesis records the story of Noah preserving two of each species (one male and one female) during a catastrophic flood that lasted 40 days and 40 nights. After the rain ceased, the ark came to rest on Mount Ararat. Although these mountains are now in eastern Turkey, they were considered part of Armenia for centuries. To this day, many Armenians see themselves as direct descendants of one of Noah's grandsons.
The obverse displays the Armenian coat of arms surrounded by both Armenian and English inscriptions.
The reverse features a detailed depiction of Noah’s ark floating through the water near Mount Ararat. The sun is rising overhead and a dove carries an olive branch towards the ark.
