This magnificent coin features the southern continent of Australia in blue lepidolite. While the history of Indigenous Australians can be dated back about 70,000 years, Europeans did not discover the continent until much later. For ages, European explorers visited parts of the land which they called Terra Australis, until 1803 when Matthew Flinders, a Royal Navy cartographer, successfully navigated around the entire continent. Australia is known for its thriving and diverse wildlife.

The obverse displays the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Jody Clark. Her Majesty is surrounded by a pattern of rays and inscriptions.

The reverse, designed by Aleysha Howarth, showcases a representation of Australia made from blue lepidolite. The continent sits in the center of the coin surrounded by floral designs and famous Australian wildlife including a kookaburra, an Australian wedge-tailed eagle, a sugar glider, a fairy wren, a blue banded bee, a birdwing butterfly, a sulphur-crested cockatoo, and a willie wagtail. Inscriptions include the year, weight, purity, and mintmark.
