The second series started in 2008 overlapping with the Lunar Series I, in order to synchronize to the Chinese Lunar calendar. Following the great success of the first two series, Perth Mint moved into the Lunar Series III. Led by the release of the “Year of the Mouse” coins and the "Year of the Ox" coins, it continues now with the year of the Tiger coins. The coins in this series were first minted in gold and silver.
