On January 30, 2014, geologist Hugo Lino was prospecting for gold near the abandoned mining community of La Ciénega in Mexico. He was shocked to instead discover a 6.1 kg meteorite! A piece of that very meteorite is embedded in this coin, making it an incredible collector’s item! Further enhancing the coin’s appeal, CIT has produced a spectacular series first: The meteorite is shown going into the edge of the coin as if the coin was liquid silver when the meteorite hit! Additionally, if you hold the coin at just the right angle, you will see the meteorite inside.
The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by inscriptions.
The reverse showcases a desert landscape inspired by La Ciénega in Sonora, Mexico. The meteorite is shown flying in - the moment before impact.
