The background displays the sunrise’s rays lighting up the US Capitol.
The reverse of the $50 Gold Eagle features the famous image by Miley Busiek: a family of American bald eagles. One parent swoops down toward the nest where the other parent and baby eagle await. The flying eagle carries an olive branch in its talons.
