The obverse design features the Augustus Saint-Gaudens illustration of Lady Liberty striding forward with a flaming torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. These two objects symbolize the concept of peace through strength. In the background, there are rays of sunlight radiating from the US Capitol behind Lady Liberty.

The reverse of the $50 Gold Eagle showcases the famous image by Miley Busiek for the final time. In a poignant scene, a majestic bald eagle swoops down toward the nest where another eagle and baby eagle await. The flying eagle carries an olive branch in its talons, symbolizing peace.
