Since their introduction in 1986, American Gold Eagle coins have remained in high demand within the coin collecting and investing communities. As the 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Coin program fast approaches, the US Mint decided to redesign the reverse for the gold and silver eagles to be released later in 2021. The obverse design displays the Augustus Saint-Gaudens illustration of Lady Liberty striding forward with a flaming torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. These two objects symbolize the concept of peace through strength. In the background, there are rays of sunlight radiating from the US Capitol behind Lady Liberty.

The reverse of the $50 Gold Eagle features the famous image by Miley Busiek: A family of American bald eagles. One parent swoops down toward the nest where the other parent and baby eagle await. The flying eagle carries an olive branch in its talons.
