This Big 5 Platinum coin series is the successor to the Big 5 collectible coin series. These coins are set to recognize and celebrate Africa’s unique natural heritage of strength and beauty. The animals that will be featured include the elephant, lion, rhino, leopard, and buffalo. Each of these animals will be released every six months in platinum BU starting this March 2020 until 2022. The obverse showcases the mighty elephant’s face and tusks bordering the top. Bordering the coin at the bottom are the inscriptions with the name of the mint and the series name with the year. Also featured in the border is South Africa’s coat-of-arms in between the inscriptions.

The reverse bears an inscribed stamp in the center between two halves of an elephant’s face, side-by-side. This way, when you place two coins beside each other, the faces are in a complete loop.
