The Valiant coin design commemorates the story of Saint George and the Dragon. According to the myth, Saint George saved a princess who drew the short straw and was about to sacrifice herself to a fierce dragon. This dragon plagued the princess’s city and the only way to placate it was to offer human sacrifices once daily. Moments before the dragon ate the brave princess, Saint George galloped to the rescue, fighting off the vicious beast and saving the city.
The obverse of this coin depicts the classic effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. Inscriptions: “ELIZABETH II”, “D.G. REG F.D.” and the denomination.
The reverse presents a gripping scene of Saint George battling the dragon while on horseback. This striking design was the result of a collaboration between artists Emma Noble and Etienne Millner. Inscriptions: The year of mintage, as well as the weight and purity of the coin.
