In 1987, The Royal Mint issued the very first Gold Britannia coin. Since then, the Britannia has become a staple of British Coinage, gracing the collection of coin enthusiasts across the globe. Following the popularity of the gold version, the Royal Mint started creating Silver Britannias in 1997 and debuted the first Platinum Britannia in 2018. That was the year the British Royal Mint also released the first iteration of a three-year series, the Britannia Oriental Border Coin. 2020 marks the series’ final year, so complete your collection now!

The obverse, designed by renowned artist Jody Clark, presents the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, facing to the right. 

The reverse displays the artistry of two separate designers- Philip Nathan and Emma Noble. Nathan designed the classic Britannia design used for Britannia coins since 1987. It showcases the figure of Britannia standing tall and proud while holding a trident and shield in her hands. The Oriental border, designed by Emma Noble, was strongly influenced by the Chinese-themed Banqueting Room in the Royal Pavilion. The Royal Pavilion, located in Brighton, was built for King George IV and remains one of the UK’s most unique landmarks to the present day.
