Beginning in 2016 with the “Lion of England” coin, the Queen’s Beasts series honors the 10 heraldic animal statues present at the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It also, notably, marked the introduction of the Royal Mint’s first 2 oz silver bullion coin.

The coin depicts a realistic falcon grasping the classic Falcon of the Plantagenets coat of arms in its talons. The rim is surrounded by the coin’s weight, purity, and year, as well as the phrase “FALCON OF THE PLANTAGENETS”. The coin’s reverse, features Jody Clark’s classic effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, alongside the coin’s denomination.
