The British Royal Mint began manufacturing Gold Britannia coins in 1987. Since then, the Britannia has become a staple of British Coinage, populating portfolios worldwide. Silver Britannia coins followed a decade later in 1997, and the first Platinum Britannia debuted in 2018. That same year, the British Royal Mint issued the first release of a three-year series, the Britannia coin with a special Oriental Border. 2020 marks the final year of the series, so be sure to complete your collection now!

The obverse, designed by engraver Jody Clark, displays the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, facing right. 

The reverse features the work of two separate designers- Philip Nathan and Emma Noble. Nathan designed the classic Britannia design seen on Britannias since 1987. It shows the figure of Britannia standing tall while holding a trident and shield. The Oriental border design by Emma Noble was inspired by the Chinese-themed Banqueting Room in the Royal Pavilion. Located in Brighton, the Royal Pavilion was built for King George IV and remains one of the United Kingdom’s most unique landmarks to this day.
