This coin is the third release in the Next Generation 2 oz silver series. This piedfort-style Kookaburra coin has a limited mintage of 75,000, purity of .9999 silver, and a weight of 2 oz. Additionally, this coin has a new security feature with a micro-engraved “P” mintmark that is only visible under the lens of a magnifying glass. These coins are minted as piedfort, a coin style with a name that originates from the French words meaning “heavy weight.” You will notice a difference between this 2 oz coin and other common 2 oz coins particularly because of their thickness. This piedfort coin is about the same size in diameter as the 1 oz silver blank, but it is much thicker instead of being a wider coin in a 2 oz size.

The obverse of the coin showcases the classic Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth with radial lines in the background. She wears the George IV State Diadem Crown and the royal earrings and jewels.

The reverse design was illustrated by Natasha Muhl featuring the ever-popular kingfisher, the kookaburra. A mother kookaburra and her baby chick stand on a tree branch together, nestling closely. The baby has an open mouth, as though it is expecting food. The reverse design also features radial lines extending from the center and a micro-engraved “P” mintmark as an additional security feature.
