This 2020 10 oz Silver Australian Kookaburra Coin denotes a special anniversary release, celebrating 30 years since the inception of the popular Australian Kookaburra Bullion series.
This 10 oz coin contains .9999 fine silver and is one of three denominations available for the silver Kookaburra coins being released this year. These silver Perth Mint coins are government-backed Australian tender, with the 10 oz coin being worth $10 AUD. Adding an additional layer of protection, the Perth Mint has micro-engraved a small letter onto the coin’s reverse, which is only visible with a magnifying glass. Kookaburras, classified as kingfisher birds of prey, live in Australia and New Guinea. The Laughing Kookaburra is the most famous of the four species, known for its unique call that resembles human laughter.
The kookaburra coin’s obverse showcases a unique 30th-anniversary design. First created by Stuart Devlin in 1990, this lovely motif displays a kookaburra sitting comfortably on a tree stump while surrounded by natural foliage. The renowned Queen Elizabeth II design by artist Jody Clark makes an appearance near the top of the coin. The anniversary years, the denomination, the Queen’s name, and “AUSTRALIA” are also inscribed around the obverse’s rim.
This silver coin’s reverse displays a Laughing Kookaburra bird perched on a rooftop in front of a rising sun. It appears to serenade the surrounding area with its notable cry. Various inscriptions surround the reverse on the rim of the coin. Alongside the design are engravings of the weight, the purity, and the phrases “AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA” and “30TH ANNIVERSARY”.
