To celebrate the Year of the mouse, the Lunar Series III commemorates the Chinese culture and history with the launch of the 2020 first animal of the lunar calendar. The Chinese zodiac is associated with the ancient Chinese Lunar Calendar and has 12 zodiac animals, and each of them displays an impressive background. Those born under the Chinese lunar mouse in 2020, 2008, 2996, 1984, 1974, and every 12th preceding year, are said to be outgoing, smart, friendly, and generous.

On the reverse, this coin displays two mice foraging on husks of corn. The design also includes the simplified Chinese character for "Mouse" along with an inscription "Mouse 2020", and the classic Perth Mint's mint mark stamped on the reverse with the letter "P."
